Changing your DNS??  Reply with quote

Ok whenever I want a domain, I usually buy the whole package. Idea But now its becoming quite expensive. lol And its because I don't know how to update the DNS servers (?) I think thats right. I would like to buy just a domain. Does anyone have a step by step tutorial on how to do so?

I'm not sure what you mean bu the "whole package", but you can certainly buy a single domain and nothing else.

I like to use GoDaddy. Of course, they try to upsell a bunch of junk you don't need, but you can skip all that.

If you have separate hosting, you can go into your Domain Management area and change the name servers for that domain to route requests for your site to the right host. It's pretty easy, you just need to have the domain name of the name servers.

Updating the DNS servers is a very easy process.

First find out the DNS server addresses from your current host.

Then login into whatever registrar you have used to register the domain name and unlock the domain

Once the domain is locked you can edit the DNS servers, just set them to the addresses that were giving you by your current host.

Once the DNS servers have been modified, relock the domain and you are set.

Each registrars system is different, but they are all pretty easy to figure out where to update the DNS settings.
